Taste with Us: The Wines of the Maremma!

The lovely Costa dell’Argentario in the Maremma region of southern Tuscany.

Tickets for our Saturday, October 30th winetasting are now on sale at Sottoprovisions.com! This month, we're featuring wines from the coastal Maremma region in southwest Tuscany -- a relatively new (by Italian winemaking standards) and exciting wine producing frontier.

We'll be tasting three terrific wines from the region: a crisp, well-structured Vermentino -- Vermentino being indigenous to the Maremma -- from Poggio al Tesoro; Ampeleia's Unlitro a luscious blend of local and Tuscany-based grapes; and the pièce de résitance, Rocca di Frasinello's Maremma Toscana Ornello, a "Super Tuscan' wine made with Maremma-grown Italian and French grape varieties. As always, we’ve put together a mix of Maremma-based antipasti pairings designed to complement the wines. And your host for the evening will be none other than Pizzeria Verità’s own Leslie Wells, who’s freshly returned from a trip to – you guessed it – the Maremma!

Once again, we are offering guests the choice of attending in person or virtually, via Zoom. There are several choices for attending:

  • Live, In-Person Tasting, plus Antipasti

  • Zoom, with 6-ounce Tasting-Sized Pours and Antipasti (enough for two)

  • Zoom, with full bottles of each wine plus Antipasti for two

  • Zoom, with both tasting pours and bottles of each wine, plus antipasti for two

We hope you'll be able to join us, and if you're attending live, we hope you'll have dinner with us after the event at Pizzeria Verità or Trattoria Delia. If you'd like to do so, please include a note with your order or give us a call at 802-864-5253. Salut!

Winetasting 101 -- Virtual ZOOM Winetasting

We are pleased to announce our next Virtual Zoom Winetasting, co-hosted with the Vermont Italian Cultural Association, will be held on May 7th from 6:30-7:30 PM.

For this winetasting, we will be joined by WSET-certified instructor, Taylor Cameron (above, center), who will guide us through the structured, systematic approach to tasting wines developed by the Wines and Spirits Education Trust (WSET). This is the approach used by sommeliers, wine critics and wine afficionados worldwide and will expand both your enjoyment and understanding of wine, and your ability to discuss the wines you enjoy. In addition, Taylor will explore the interplay between food and wine, and how they can provide more enjoyment together than when they're consumed separately.

This month’s tasting will include a white, a rosé and a red: We’ll begin a Sicilian Grillo from Tasca d’Almerita, then proceed to a Sangiovese-based rosé from Villa di Geggiano in Tuscany, and finally, finish with an elegant Langhe Nebbiolo from Piedmont producer, Elvio Tintero.

This month we’re also offering three different package options, each of which includes three wines, food pairings and the winetasting Zoom link. Our customary package of three full bottles is, as always, available to you. For those who'd prefer not to open three bottles at once, we're offering six ounce tastings of each wine, which is enough for two. Finally, you can purchase the tasting package and the three bottles if you’d like to have unopened bottles to share with family or friends at a later date.

We hope you'll set aside May 7th and come join us for another exciting winetasting! To purchase your ticket, click here.

Join us Thursday, March 25th at 6:30 pm, for a spirited celebration of Women’s History Month as we roll out the next installment of our Virtual Winetasting series, co-hosted with the Vermont Italian Cultural Association (VICA).

In this virtual Zoom tasting, Leslie Wells and Lisa Strausser of Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant will present three amazing wines produced by women in Italy. We'll begin the evening with a bubbly Prosecco, produced by Cinzia Sommariva in the Veneto, then travel to Tuscany for Elisa Sesti’s ‘Monteleccio’ -- a Sangiovese-based red wine from Tuscany’s Brunello country -- and finally, we'll taste an expressive Nebbiolo from Giulia Negri. As always, we'll pair each wine with hand-curated antipasti selections from Chef Michael Springer -- because Italian wine is always at its best when served with food!
